Bollywood Box Office: Lootera Average Beginning, Policegiri is a Disaster

The first two Bollywood releases of the second half of the year haven't really set the box office on fire. Vikramaditya Motwane's Lootera starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha had a slow start in most of the screens across the country; though the film did pick up later on and earned close to 17 crore in its first weekend. The figures are not that great, but the film's healthy growth on Saturday and Sunday suggest good word of mouth. So, if the film manages to get good collections on weekdays, it has got a chance to score at the box office.

Policegiri, Sanjay Dutt's first release after he began serving three years imprisonment, was a nonstarter at the box office. The movie didn't have much publicity and that was visible in the opening as even single screens registered low collections. Any hope for an upward trend in the business was dashed by the evening as the poor critical and audience reaction poured in. Policegiri could manage only around 8 crore between Friday and Sunday.

Ghanchakkar could muster only around 26 crore in its first week. The film added its name in the list of huge flops in the first half of year 2013. Raanjhanaa continued to impress in its second weekend as the film pushed its two week tally to around 52 crore. The third weekend was also good and the film shouldn't have any problem in going past 60 crore mark. Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani's collections are pretty low now and now it is sure that the film won't outgross Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger. Till date the blockbuster has earned close to 178 crore at the Indian box office.

Next week sees the release of another big film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
