Hollywood Box Office: Man of Steel Has a Record Opening


The new Superman film Man of Steel had an impressive start at the US box office. The Zack Snyder directed $225 million budgeted superhero film with Henry Cavill in the title role grossed around $125 million in the weekend. It was a new record for the month of June as the movie went past Toy Story 3's debut of $110.3 million. In the second place was another new film This is the End. The R-rated comedy had a good opening as well as it notched up $32.8 million by Sunday.



Last week's winner The Purge had a steep fall in the second weekend and it earned paltry $8.2 million. The movie has grossed around $52 million so far. The magician thriller Now You See Me continued to do well as it grossed $10.32 million to take its total to around $80 million.

Fast and Furious 6 went past Fast Five's finally tally of $209 million to become the highest grossing film in the franchise. The film has amassed around $220 million so far. on the other hand Iron Man 3 is a just a day or two short of hitting $400 million at the US box office.
