Top Hits Bollywood in First Half of 2013

This hasn't been a great year for Bollywood so far as only handful films have been able to make a mark on the box office while a no. of big and medium budget films have bitten the dust. Nevertheless, there is a silver lining in a way that good films saw fair box office collections and mostly it was sub par stuff that was rejected. Let's have a look at the top Bollywood hits this year.

                                                      1. Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani

Ranbir Kapoor had very quickly established himself as a fine actor, but his box office prowess was revealed last year when Barfi! hit the 100 crore mark. He blew away even the nearest expectations this year with Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani that has broken many records for a non-holiday opener. and is on pace to become 2nd highest grosser ever. The film has grossed in excess of 165 crore so far.

                                                                     2. Race 2

Race 2 was filmed on a bigger scale and was expected to be the first entry in the coveted 100 crore club this year. However the lukewarm reports hindered the film's progress post opening weekend. Nevertheless, the movie was a good hit at the box office, if not spectacular. The final tally of the film was more than 90 crore.

                                                              3. Aashiqui 2

It turned out to be the OMG! of this year. Aashiqui 2 had a very average beginning at the box office, and then the film gained strength with each subsequent day. The hit music and the dearth of a good romantic drama for past many months proved a catalyst as Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer continues to rake money in its sixth week. The grosses till now exceed 70 crore.

                                                                4. Special 26

Neeraj Pandey's second film after A Wednesday deserved more success at the box office than it eventually got. However it was more to do with he genre (heist thriller) that is very much unexplored and less popular in India. Akshay Kumar and Manoj Bajpai starrer this film was one of the best rated Bollywood film this year and notched up more than 60 crore at the box office.

                                                              5. Chashme Buddor

It was a critical failure as most of the reviewers lambasted this over the top comedy. However the movie struck a chord with the youth. Ali Zafar and newcomer Tapsi Punnu starrer Chashme Buddor had a solid start at the box office and grossed in excess of 50 crore.

                                                             6. Kai Po Che

Chetan Bhagat's 3 mistakes of my life's big screen adaptation was directed by Abhishek Kapoor who had proved his mettle with Rock On! The hit music and a good performance by the new star cast comprising popular TV actor Sushant Singh ensured that movie was a critical as well as commercial success.

                                                   7. ABCD - Anybody Can Dance

The first 3D dance film of India ABCD gained a lot from the intensive marketing as well as curiosity amongst the dance aficionados. Critically it was not received enthusiastically, but box office collections of more than 40 crore prove that it was one of the successes this year. .

                                                                     8. Jolly LLB

It was also a surprise box office hit this year since the stars of the film, Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani, don't have box office bankability. However, the good word of mouth ensured that the film was a commercial success, especially in North.
